HERALDRY
Herald Painter to the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh, leading the team of heraldic artists and calligraphers who write and handpaint Grants and Matriculations of Arms' for the Lyon Office in Scotland. These Armorial Bearings are legal documents in Scotland and are proof that only the bearers, or Petitioners, may use the heraldic Achievements granted in their names and which are subsequently handpainted onto the corresponding calfskin vellum pages of the Lyon Register, held in the Court of the Lord Lyon at HM New Register House in Edinburgh.
The Court of the Lord Lyon is the oldest Heraldic Office in the world with the Lyon Register containing the first depictions of Arms dating from 1672 up to present day - a living manuscript of the history of heraldry in use in Scotland.
In addition to working on heraldic documents, I design, draw and paint sketches in black and white or colour as designs for proposed Armorial Bearings or 'Coats of Arms'.
I also design and paint Library Paintings of existing Armorial Bearings, past and present.
Please contact me if you are interested in commissioning heraldic artwork or handpainted initials or calligraphy work for any purpose.
